Day One: London, England

It’s been a long and exciting few days! After a teary goodbye with my parents at the airport, I boarded my flight.  Seven and a half hours later, we had landed at Gatwick Airport in London, England on a rare and beautiful sunny day.

Since Ryan and I planned our layover to be a full eight hours, we were able to head out into the city and see some of the most iconic sites including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the London Eye.  No Wills and Kate in site unfortunately but still a good day! I was immediately astounded by how huge these buildings were considering their age and presence in a country where everything is so close together.

Westminster Abbey. If you want to talk old- look no further!  Westminster Abbey is over 1000 years old and according to their website, is the “final resting place” for seventeen monarchs!

Erected in 1858, this clock tower hosts the second largest four-faced clock in the world. Please note the shadows cast by the bridge I’m standing on…they look like dongs.

At 135 meters tall, the London Eye towers over the River Thames in London. It also costs 19.97 pounds minimum for a ride I’ve heard is crowded and lack-luster so we decided to enjoy if from the bridge!

Finally, we stopped for a traditional fish and chips lunch before catching our train back to Gatwick.  My friend Lucy would never forgive me if I didn’t take a photo- so here you go!

Overall it was an awesome day. Next stop, Cork!

Peace, love and history.
