How Canadians Have Owned the Canadian Sound

Updated: Feb 2, 2020

Dine Alone Records said it best- "Canadian is not a genre." Canadian music is something that sprawls across all genres. You'll find us Canucks killing it internationally with big acts like Drake and the Biebs to niche rock n' roll, indie, folk and everything in between. So put down the butter tart and check out these tracks of Canadians covering other Canadians.

P.S. They weren't all findable on Spotify so I had to add some YouTube videos too!

Spotify doesn't really give cred where cred is due so for those wondering about original artists:

1. Secret Heart- Feist covering Ron Sexsmith

2. Black History Month- Metric covering Death From Above 1979

3. If You Could Read My Mind- Neil Young Covering Gordon Lightfoot

4. Helpless- K.D. Lang covering Neil Young

5. Black Day in July- The Tragically Hip covering Gordon Lightfoot

6. Sugar Mountain- Metric covering Neil Young

7. Lovers in a Dangerous Time- The Barenaked Ladies cover Bruce Cockburn

And now for the ones I couldn't find on Spotify that I love so much!!

8. Stolen Land- William Prince & Elisapie Isaac cover Bruce Cockburn

9. Music at Work- The Arkells cover The Tragically Hip

10. Ohio- Black Pistol Fire cover Neil Young

(Let me just say that this crappy concert recording does not do this cover ANY justice!)

11. Weighty Ghost- Mother Mother cover Wintersleep

Peace, love & history.
